Traveling with your dog is one of life’s greatest joys. They inspire us, make new friends for us, and are always full of surprises! A trip to Old Forge promises an exciting and enriching experience for you and your best friends.
One of the most pet-friendly attractions in Old Forge is our fantastic TOBIE Trail. TOBIE, which stands for Thendara, Old Forge, Big Moose, Inlet, and Eagle Bay, links all these wonderful destinations. In Old Forge, the trail’s main focal point is the visitor information center. It then winds past the town beach and along scenic Old Forge Pond, crosses South Shore Road, and skirts Maple Ridge with its own recreation trails. Just a short stroll down Park Avenue, you’ll discover another gem for your furry companion – the new Conklin Family Dog Park!
The TOBIE Trail offers an incredible opportunity for you and your four-legged buddy to explore Old Forge. Away from hustle and bustle, yet conveniently connecting you to the heart of town with its charming shops and eateries, it’s perfect for a leisurely walk or an adventurous outing where you set the pace. Eateries with dog-friendly patios easily accessible from the TOBIE Trail include: Fulton Chain Craft Brewery on North Street, The Pied Piper, and Slicker’s Adirondack Tavern. All are detailed on the local dining map, available at the Old Forge Information Center.
If your pup likes to shop for the latest in pup-cessories, stop in at Waggin' It in the ADK!If you prefer a quieter experience or want to bike while your dog enjoys a hike, head down North Street to find the unpaved section of the TOBIE Trail. This scenic route winds through forests and past pristine ponds and lakes, including a charming iron bridge over the Moose River – ideal for a refreshing dip. This stretch extends for 10 miles and includes a portion of the trail that runs alongside Route 28 to Eagle Bay. Short walks along the way lead to dog-friendly patios at Daiker’s on Fourth Lake and Mountainside Smokehouse Grill. In Eagle Bay, furry friends are welcome on patios at The Donut Shop and Twisters.
